Online marketing practices for a small business

If you are just starting out or are a small business with a limited budget to spend on marketing efforts online.

Here are a few things you can do to get started in the online space:

List your business on Google

Google My Business Listing is a great place to get started. Look to see if your business is already on Google My Business and claim the business. Login and make sure that all the details are listed or not. If it is already listed and you’re the owner, make sure all details are added and accurate, including:

  • Name, address, phone (NAP)
  • Website (if you have one)
  • Relevant Business Category
  • Work hours
  • Logo and photos

Verify your business and you’re done, plus its completely free.

Create a Facebook Business page

You might probably be using Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, but have you tried it for your business? If no, this is a good next step.

Create a business page on Facebook. Select a relevant category, put in all the information and get started. Try to enter as much information as possible, including ‘about your business’, a short and long description, some photos and videos.

Once your page is set up and looks good, you may then invite your current customers and other well wishers to like your page. This way you can start building up a following.

Ask customers to review your business

Use these online spaces to interact with customers and potential clients. A good way to do that is to ask them to review your business genuinely on Google or Facebook.

If you have listed your business on Google, they will be able to leave a review. Same for Facebook, the customers will be able to recommend your business if they liked the experience they’ve had with you. This small input from a happy customer builds a credibility and acts as a trust builder for new clients.

Not all days are sunny, do not despair if you get a not so good review. Take the feedback constructively and reply to them with a positive attitude trying to solve the disappointment to the best possible extent.

Keep all information up to date

Once all is set up and you have started getting some traction out of it, all your online profiles must not be left totally isolated.

For example, post new photos on your Facebook page, put up an update about an event or promotion you’re running and so on. Also make sure that your listing details are well maintained. If you have opened up another branch you can also add a new location to your business listing on Google. Manage multiple locations of your business and perform an upkeep as frequently as possible.

These are some basic things you should be able to do yourself for getting your business noticed online. As we know, most of the people now search for places online more than ever before, so it has become too important to ignore.
